Earthquake of 5.3 magnitude hits Telangana, felt in Hyderabad too…

Earthquake strikes Telangana today: An earthquake of magnitude 5.3 hit Telangana’s Mulugu area on Wednesday morning, the National Centre for Seismology reported, with tremors also felt in Hyderabad and parts of Andhra Pradesh. The tremor struck at 7:27 am, sending chills down the spine of residents.

There were no immediate reports of loss of life or any major damage. The government is assessing the situation while experts are advising residents to remain alert and stay away from crowded or dangerous buildings during earthquakes.

The National Centre for Seismology posted on X, “EQ of M: 5.3, On: 04/12/2024 07:27:02 IST, Latitude: 18.44 N, Longitude: 80.24 E, Depth: 40 km, Area: Mulugu, Telangana.”

Telangana experiences very little seismic activity, making earthquakes a rare occurrence in the region.

Earthquake jolts many parts of Maharashtra


After the earthquake in Mulugu in neighbouring Telangana on Wednesday morning, tremors were also felt in Nagpur, Gadchiroli and Chandrapur areas of Maharashtra. According to the NCS, an earthquake of 5.3 magnitude was recorded in Mulugu at 7.27 am.

According to sources in the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and local residents, mild tremors were felt in Nagpur. According to the local data office, mild tremors were also felt in Gadchiroli, which is very close to Telangana.

In Chandrapur, mild tremors were also felt in parts of the city, Ballarpur and tehsils bordering Telangana, a local administration official said.

Chandrapur Collector Vinay Gowda appealed to the residents to avoid cold and said that if such tremors are felt again, they should be careful and move to open spaces outside the buildings. According to IMD officials, mild tremors are usually felt 200 to 300 km away from the epicentre.
