Today marks the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, one of the darkest days in Indian history. On this day in 2008, India’s financial capital Mumbai was under attack as ten highly equipped terror attackers launched multiple well-planned attacks on the city. The horrific events lasted for 60 hours, killing 166 innocent people and injuring over 300. The day marks the strength and sacrifice of those who stood firm in the face of terror. Tributes are pouring in from across the country, remembering the courageous security forces, police officers and civilians who lost their lives in this calamity.

Honoring the Martyrs
As the mayhem spread, countless people displayed extraordinary bravery. Mumbai Police, NSG commandos, and Marine Commandos (MARCOS) put their lives on the line to neutralize the attackers and protect the prisoners. Some of the names among the many heroes are etched in our collective memory:
Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who led the NSG group at the Taj and was martyred while rescuing prisoners.
- Tukaram Omble, a right-handed sub-inspector who gave his life to capture Ajmal Kasab, a psychotic terrorist who was captured alive.
A Nation Remembers
On this solemn commemoration, ceremonies and events are held across the country to honour the fallen and the casualties. Pioneers, civilians and families of the martyrs pay tribute at memorials such as the 26/11 Police Memorial in Mumbai. Messages of solidarity and versatility have flooded social media, reminding us that we must never overlook the sacrifices made for our safety.
The remembrance of the Mumbai terror attacks is a day to reflect on the fragility of peace and the quality of solidarity. It is a time to honour the heroes who sacrificed their lives and promise to stand together against forces that seek to undermine harmony.
Paying tribute to the saints of 26/11, let us reaffirm our commitment to a safer, more grounded India.
We will never forget. Jai Hind!
