Shaktikanta Das bid a final farewell on Tuesday as he is set to step down as RBI Governor today. He will take over after Sanjay Malhotra is announced as the 26th chief of the central bank. “Will step down as RBI Senator today. Thank you all for your support and best wishes. Thank you very much to Hon’ble Prime Minister @narendramodi for giving me the opportunity to serve the country as RBI’s representative and for his guidance and support. I benefited greatly from his views and ideas,” Das said in a post on X. Besides, the 25th RBI chief also thanked Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in his message. Shaktikanta Das said in his statement,
“Many thanks to Hon’ble Finance Minister @nsitharaman for her constant support and backing. Fiscal-monetary coordination was at its best and it helped us deal with various challenges during the last six years.” Das said, “I thank all the stakeholders from the financial sector and economy, experts and financial analysts, industry bodies and associations, agriculture, food and beverage sectors for their inputs and solution proposals.” Concluding his message, Das said, “A big thank you to the entire RBI group. Together we successfully navigated a very challenging period of extraordinary global surprises. May the RBI grow even more as an institution of trust and legitimacy. My best wishes to all of you.”
He was nominated as a Senator on December 12, 2018, after the sudden exit of Urjit Patel.
